An introduction to the MAXIMO reporting suite using E-Report Design Professional (eRDPro) and using the 4 IBM Maximo templates to customize standard reports and create new reports to meet the needs of the business environment.

By the end of the class the student should be capable of creating, publishing and customizing information objects, single header reports, multi-same and different header reports, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and using report subsections (multiple query and sub-queries). Additionally, using Actuates Basic Programming Language to achieve reporting goals and query optimization for specific database platforms will be introduced. The students will develop familiarity with setting up reports within Maximo and the administration of the Actuate Encyclopedia including setting report permissions, defining report factories, setting report run times and e-mailing the reports. This class will include discussions on the SQL language and techniques to make reports run effectively within MAXIMO.

 

MAXIMO FOR END USERS

This course focuses on the skills necessary for the End User to be able to quickly and effectively utilize MAXIMO in the performance of their job. The course is appropriate for people that are new to MAXIMO or those who want to develop a deeper understanding of MAXIMO’s core functionality. This course is not intended to nor will it teach you how to setup and customize your MAXIMO system. This course will demonstrate MAXIMO’s Workflow, Work Order, Preventive Maintenance, Service Request and Ticket functionality. The class will also demonstrate the functionality of Bulletin Boards, Email, Reports, Workflow, Organizations, Sites, Sets (Item and Company), Assets, Locations, Inventory, Kits (Inventory) and other areas of functionality in MAXIMO. Students will utilize the various applications in MAXIMO to create and process Work Orders, Purchase Requests, Purchase Orders, Service Requests (including the creation of Incidents, Change Requests and Releases) and Perform Receipts. Additionally, students will be exposed to and given the opportunity to create or modify Companies, Items, Inventory records, Locations and Assets and the like. Students will learn to utilize the various Start Center features to enhance their MAXIMO experience.

Rules inherent in the way MAXIMO manages records will be discussed and demonstrated as necessary. The students will process a “record” through all the stages of the “Life Cycle” from initial Work Request (or Service Request) -> Work Order -> Job Planning (New Item – Item Master -> Inventory) -> Purchase Request -> Purchase Order -> Receiving -> Issues and Transfers, and virtually all other related applications.

The course demonstrates some of the functionality of Workflow through the use of a custom process for the handling of records during the class.

 

An in-depth analysis of the MAXIMO Workflow applications, the class will include multiple case studies including both EAM and IT business processes. This class focuses on assisting students in defining and creating Workflow business processes using a case study approach.

By the end of the class the student should have a strong understanding of the processes required to define and build Workflow Processes and the applications necessary to configure the MAXIMO system to support them. The student will become familiar with MAXIMO work management and the IT change processes. This class will demonstrate and utilize each of the following: Task Node, Manual Input Node, Condition Node, Sub Process Node, Wait Node, Interaction Nodes and configuration of the “Email Listener”. Utilization of Workflow based “Custom Class” (java) files will also be covered and the students will implement example code. Students will export and subsequently import their Workflows; a discussion will be held concerning best practices when moving Workflows.

To get the most out of this class, the student should be familiar with creation of work orders, service requests, person, users and security groups. Familiarity with SQL queries and the MAXIMO Database Structure is highly desired. This is a fast-paced course requiring a lot of student interaction. Student groups will be assigned for the first two days; however, the “final” is an individual requirement. “Homework” will be assigned and the instructors will be available before and after class to handle specific needs. Time permitting, assistance will be provided focusing on the students’ specific business requirements.

This course has as testing requirement and successful completion of one of the processes to the instructor’s satisfaction is required to receive a “Certificate of Completion”.

 

This course takes a demo/discussion/implement approach where the instructor first walks the student through a subject, demonstrating it if applicable, holds a discussion with the students and then assigns appropriate “challenges” for the students to complete to show they have understood the topic prior to moving on. It is a fast-paced course that goes very “In Depth” on the technical side of Maximo. Students will install (BEA or WebSphere, Maximo and Actuate), configure, load and tune their own copy of Maximo to work on. Installation and configuration of the database will be covered. Students will load both a “blank” and demo copy of the MAXIMO database. The Database structure itself will be investigated via the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) and SQL queries of the database. The File structure and layout of the MAXIMO Application Directory will be examined in depth. Students will configure changes to the database, make application changes, build deployment (EAR) files, and configure batch files for Demo, Test and Production systems and the like. Additionally, students will be introduced to the MAXIMO Enterprise Adaptor (MEA) and will configure the JMS queues, various MEA parameters and perform data transfers. LDAP, Email Listener and Workflow configuration and support will be discussed.

This course has a troubleshooting component where the instructor will either “introduce” a problem to the system or require the students to perform some configuration or change that will cause “problems” with how MAXIMO performs. Students will be required to solve the problem using all possible methods discussed in the class. Resolution of 80% of the assigned problems and successful installation of the MAXIMO system will be required to obtain a “Certificate of Completion”. Students should be very familiar with Maximo and the underlying structure of the system.

 

An “In Depth” look at the knowledge and skills necessary to administer the MAXIMO system. The students will be introduced to the file structure, control files, processes and system files that may need to be customized or extended to meet business needs and how to set up and maintain their MAXIMO system.

The student will be introduced to the applications, settings and entity relationships that control how MAXIMO performs. Students will perform configurations to the database, modify settings for performance tuning, configure application screens and setup baseline data required in a day-to-day Administration Role. Report administration will be covered to include registering reports, configuring parameters and configuring the Actuate Encyclopedia. Topics include but are not limited to: configuration (System, Multi-Site, Organization, Site), user security and access, financials (GL Account), reports, domains (to include Relationships and Crossovers), bulletin boards, LDAP, Crontasks and Escalations, and the “Email Listener”.
